Wanted! House Dance Participants

Wanted... motivated and committed male and female dancers in Years 7 to 10 to take part in the House Dance Competition

What is the House Dance Competition?
It is an exciting and rewarding opportunity for students who enjoy dancing, to make new friends and help create a dance performance and perform to a live audience.

How can I get involved?
Year 10 House Dance Captains will hold open auditions for students in Years 7 to 10 in the week commencing Monday 20 May in the Dance studio. You must wear dance kit. Audition dates will follow!

What happens in the audition?
Year 10 House Dance Captains will do a warm up and then teach you a short phrase. You will then perform it in small groups to the Captains. They will be looking for students who show lots of effort, look like they enjoy performing and are willing to work hard!

How will I know if I have been selected for the House Dance Team?
Team lists for Arnold, Lister and Newton will be displayed on the notice board on Friday 24th May at the end of the school day.

When do the rehearsals take place?
Each House will rehearse once a week from 3.15-4.30pm in the Dance Studio (Mon/Tue/Wed) from June-July (6 weeks) and then September –October (4 weeks)

When will the rehearsals start?
Rehearsals will start on Monday 3rd June. It is essential that you look at the Team List and rehearsal schedule for your House at the end of the school day on Friday 24th May.
(The next week is half term, so you will need to know before you go on holiday!)

Does it cost anything?
All students are asked to donate £3.00 towards the cost of buying costumes for the dance. This will need to be paid in the first rehearsal. Please bring cash and hand it to your Dance Captains.

When is the House Dance Competition?
You will perform your dance in the Dance Show in October 2013 in Drama Studio One.
Monday 7 October – Dress/Technical rehearsal
Tuesday 8 October – Performance 1
Wednesday 9 October – Performance 2 and Judging Night!

What awards are there in the Competition?

Amazing Netball Opportunity Comes To Yateley School!

On Friday 15th March the PE department organised a netball coaching day with Tamsin Greenway. Tamsin is an English netball player and was a member of the England National Netball Team playing either wing attack or goal attack. Tamsin had been a member of the England national team since 2004/05, making her senior debut against South Africa.

During her career she has competed at two Commonwealth Games (2006 and 2010) and one Netball World Championships (2007), collecting bronze medals at both Commonwealth Games. She also won silver at the 2010 World Netball Series in Liverpool.

Domestically, Tamsin played in the Netball Super league with the Surrey Storm. She previously played for the Team Bath teams that won back-to-back national elite Super league titles in 2005/6 and 2006/7. Tamsin now coaches Surrey Storm and commentates for the International matches.

Our students were very excited to be involved in the workshops, and benefited from her professional coaching and advice. Tamsin commented on how polite Yateley Students were, and how hard working and engaged the students had been throughout all of the workshop sessions. We would like to say a big thank you to Tasmin for coming in and working with our students. The day ran successfully, and we that we have inspired our students through this great opportunity.
Mrs Evans, PE Department.
